Fertility Acupuncture at Brighton Acupuncture with Tam Handley

Fertility specialist

Tam has completed advanced fertility acupuncture training and is a member of the Acupuncture Fertility Network. She uses a fertility detective system alongside acupuncture, considering all relevant aspects of a client’s health, wellbeing and lifestyle in the sessions.

Acupuncture for fertility

If conception takes longer than expected it can be hard to know where to turn. There is a lot of conflicting advice online and help from conventional doctors can be limited. Whether you are struggling to conceive naturally or planning a round of, acupuncture can help. Tam uses acupuncture to help the body return to a fertile state, and also provides coaching around the menstrual cycle, BBT charts, tracking fertile mucus and more. By helping her clients understand what is going on within their bodies and track improvements, they are able to improve chances of conception.

Acupuncture and ART/IVF

Acupuncture can be very helpful for couples planning a round of IVF or ICSI. It is recommended to start a few months ahead of the cycle to prepare the body in advance. Tam offers IVF preparation treatments, acupuncture for medicated cycles, acupuncture for frozen cycles, embryo transfer treatments and acupuncture for the two week wait. Many clients see benefits of treatment and decide to continue into their pregnancy.

Fertility acupuncture research

There is a good body of research into acupuncture for fertility. Studies have found acupuncture to have a significant treatment effect in improving the birth rates of sub-fertile women undergoing IVF or ICSI. An overview from 2009 up to 2017 also found that acupuncture given at the time of egg collection and embryo transfer improved clinical pregnancy rates. Another study also found that traditional acupuncture was an effective strategy to alleviate stress and anxiety experienced by sub-fertile women.
Andrew Huberman talks about acupuncture and fertility in a recent video here.

Yes. Fertility acupuncture appointments are available at both Brighton Acupuncture locations, in Brighton and Hove.

Can acupuncture help with fertility?

Many people find acupuncture helpful as part of their fertility journey, and Tam has helped many people conceive. Acupuncture also offers emotional support, relaxation and a great way to manage the stress fertility issues can cause.

Can I have acupuncture alongside IVF?

Yes, many people choose acupuncture alongside IVF or other fertility treatment. Tam can work around your cycle and clinic schedule, and IV protocol.

When should I start fertility acupuncture?

If trying to conceive naturally you can start at any time. With IVF it is ideal to start 3 months in advance, some people also start once treatment is already underway. Tam can talk through where you are in your cycle or fertility plan.

What happens at a fertility acupuncture consultation?

Tam will ask about your cycle, fertility history, investigations, IVF or IUI plans, stress levels, sleep, digestion, lifestyle and any diagnoses such as PMOS or endometriosis.

Can I come if I have unexplained infertility?

Yes. Unexplained infertility can feel frustrating and isolating. Acupuncture does not replace medical investigation, but it can offer a structured, supportive space to look at your cycle, symptoms and wellbeing.

Can acupuncture support fertility stress?

Yes, this is one of the common reasons people book fertility acupuncture. Trying to conceive can feel emotionally intense, and acupuncture appointments can offer a calm space to support your nervous system and general wellbeing.

Can my partner come to a fertility acupuncture appointment?

It’s a great idea for both partners to have treatment, they will need to book in a separate consultation.

Will Tam tell me to stop medication or fertility treatment?

No. Tam will not ask you to stop prescribed medication or fertility treatment. Always follow advice from your GP, consultant or fertility clinic.
